WASHING

All fleeces are individually washed. You are welcome to wash your own, but the fiber must be free of any stickiness in order to be processed.

PICKING & BLENDING

Picking is the opening of the fiber locks. It doesn’t take out all the vegetation. This is also the stage where we

blend fibers. We do not charge additional for blending.

CARDING

Carding can lead to an end product of either roving or batts. We can do rovings in solids, stripes, multicolored or sequential. We have a 3 lb. clean weight minimum for carding.Carding can also be a step along the way to either felt or yarn.

PIN DRAFTING

Pin drafting blends the carded roving and aligns the fiber for spinning.

SPINNING

We can spin from lace weight to bulky and sizes in between. We measure our yarn in yards per pound and spin in weights ranges appropriate to the fiber type. We have an 8 lb. clean weight minimum for spinning.

PLYING

Plying balances the yarn. We offer 2 ply for the finer yarns of lace weight to sports weight and offer 2 ply or 3 ply in DK to Bulky.

SKEINS OR CONES

The default size for skeins is 4 oz size. Smaller skeins can be done for an additional fee. Yarn for commercial knitting or weaving is generally put up in cones.

FELT

We offer needled felt in a continuous piece 65” wide and length determined by the amount of fiber. We have a 6 lb clean weight minimum for felt.

CORE SPUN RUG YARN

Core Spun is produced by wrapping fiber around a core yarn. We typically use a cotton core. We have a 3 lb clean weight minimum for Core Spun.

KNITTED PRODUCTS

We offer tube knitting of I-cords in two sizes that can be used in crafts or as large yarns themselves. We also have vintage circular knitters that are used in the making of hats. If you are interested in socks we can spin your fiber to the necessary size (lace weight) and it can be sent to Frog Creek Socks or Nothland Woolens for knitting. Visit their sites for more information on what they can do.
